As a way of giving back to Alliance High School and the community around it, health professionals from the school would like to hold a medical camp on Saturday 29th February at AHS.
The need for the camp
This will be the second edition of the Medical Camp following the one on March 9th, 2019. The first camp demonstrated a clear need for specialised consultations, treatment and follow ups for the boys in the school. Most boys in the school only go to the school nurse when seriously ill and presented with conditions that were diagnosed at the camp. In addition, it was an eye opener on the need for mental health access for the boys from the feedback by the psychiatrists in attendance. It would also be an opportunity for corporate social responsibility to the community neighboring the school. In addition, it would serve as an opportunity to mentor the boys who may be interested in health as a profession.
The camp invites all professionals in the health field as volunteers. It will also have specialists who are old boys and old girls of the school as well as alumni who are in the medical field, i.e. medical doctors, pharmacists, dentists and medical students.
The camp will be held on Saturday 29th February at the AHS from 8:30 am to 3 pm. It will involve screenings for blood pressure and BMI, medical consultations, ophthalmologic and dental reviews, nutritional and public health advice.
At the end, the camp would try to achieve a disease-free AHS population, set up public health measures and monitoring protocols to prevent the spread of communicable diseases at the school and ensure students’ safety, better the relationship with the neighboring community through the social responsibility and mentor the young AHS students.
Those intending to participate can sign up HERE for the event, especially those who would like to volunteer as specialists, doctors, nurses, medical students or ushers.
